Marfrig intends to open a global market for one of its plant-based meat products starting next year.
A gourmet hamburger was launched earlier this week in Brazil under the Revolution brand. Starting next year, Marfrig intends to export vegetarian burgers. The company did not disclose how much it will spend on brand promotion.
In August, Marfrig announced a joint venture with Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) of America to create a plant-based product portfolio.
In India, over 80% of the population does not eat meat, dairy products, eggs and even fish, but this does not prevent the Indians from being considered the most “giving birth” nation.
The first product, the Rebel Whopper burger, is already available at Burger King restaurants in Brazil. Revolution will be the second plant-based product released by Marfrig, which targets a market that is already open to startups such as Beyond Meat and Impossible Foods.
Recently, other meat giants in the world, such as Tyson Foods and Vion, have introduced their own plant-based products in line with the growing market trend.
