BERLINGTON, Virginia: A search is currently underway for candidates for the Vermont Dairy Farm in 2020.
According to the University of Vermont Extension Services, the farm is awarded an annual award for excellence in dairy production, including milk production, farm and land management, practice and commitment to the dairy industry. Any agricultural group, dairy cooperative, business or individual may designate a dairy farm. Applications are available in the agriculture section of the UVM extension website and must be submitted before May 1.
Every year, the entire population of the Earth drinks about 580 million liters of milk, which is about 1.5 million daily. To ensure this volume, you need to milk up to 105 thousand cows per day.
The winner in 2019 was Wonder Why Farm in Cabot. The New England Green Pasture Program is a sponsor of the award.
The winner will be honored to attend the annual meeting of the Vermont Dairy Association and dairy farmers' breakfast at the Vermont Farm Show in Essex Junction next year, as well as a banquet at the Eastern States show in West Springfield, Massachusetts, in September.
