Ukraine has a high potential for growing such a crop as chickpeas on an area of not less than 1.5 million. This opinion was expressed by Raisa Vozhegova, doctor of agricultural sciences, professor, corresponding member of the UAAS, Institute of Irrigated Agriculture of the UAAS.
Direct speech: “However, today the technology for growing this crop is not well developed in the conditions of the Southern Steppe of Ukraine,” she added. “In particular, it requires a more detailed study of the issue of the effectiveness of the use of herbicides for different periods of their application in crops.”
The difficulty in growing chickpeas is that chickpea plants are small in size and have a sparse bush structure, so their competitiveness for weeds is very low.
In some areas of Germany and Austria, a coffee substitute is made from chickpeas.
With a high contamination of the seeds of the weeds of the arable layer - more than 1 billion pcs / ha. You can get rid of the problem in crops only with the help of herbicides.
Therefore, research on the study of new drugs of herbicidal action and the development of technology for their use are of significant scientific interest and relevant for farmers, the institute emphasized.
Earlier it was reported that the farm from the Khmelnitsky district of Vinnitsa region this spring conducted an experimental planting of chickpeas.
