Botanical flower description
By irises, it is customary to mean perennial rhizome plants of a grassy type that are members of the same name Iris family. This is one of the most common plant group on the planet, the varieties of which are found on almost all continents. The total number of Irisovs is about 800 species.
A typical representative of the species has a simple or branched grassy stem, consisting of a single formation or several bundles. On each stem, elongated, xiphoid-shaped leaves are formed, developing from almost one basal growth point. Leaf tissues are soft and thin, often with a slight wax coating.Did you know? Among the Western Slavs, irises were called "perunik". This was due to the fact that, according to their beliefs, the flower grew at the place of the lightning strike emitted by the thunder god Perun.
The root system in fibrous type irises. It is formed in the form of a main rhizome up to 20 cm long, on which numerous flat filiform roots grow up to 30 cm long. This structure of the root system allows the flower to improve the mechanical properties of the substrate, therefore it is often used as a precursor for fastidious plants.
The main advantage of irises are flowers. They can be formed singly or collected in large inflorescences of several pieces. In individual hybrids, the flower is characterized by a light specific aroma. The perianth of the flower is simple; it cannot be divided into a corolla and a cup. The flower consists of 3–6 petal lobes.
The base of the petals grows together as they grow into a small tube, at the bottom of which nectar forms. The color scheme of the iris flower is diverse, the petals are characterized by a shade from white to deep purple, including their combinations. Flowering plants in the middle lane are observed throughout May and June.
