According to NAAS published data, the area of degraded land in Ukraine ranges from 8 million hectares to 10-15 million hectares, which entails consequences for agricultural production. Losses only due to a shortage of agricultural products amount to 35 billion UAH per year.
Depending on the severity of degradation processes, crop yield is reduced by 10-30%, and in some cases by 30-50% or more.
Losses due only to a shortage of agricultural products amount to, according to our estimates, about 35 billion UAH per year. Ecological and economic damage from degradation, scientists estimate 40 billion UAH.
At the same time, the quality of agricultural products (the phenomenon of hidden hunger) is deteriorating. Only healthy soils can ensure high quality of plants, water, air, animal and human health, commented Svyatoslav Balyuk, academician of the NAAS from the Department of Agriculture, Land Reclamation and Mechanization.
It was previously reported that in Ukraine there is a significant amount of land that is no longer suitable for agricultural processing. According to the latest data, there are 6.5 million ha.
Such land would be advisable to withdraw from agricultural circulation.
