According to EastFruit experts, the cost of carrots of the “old” crop continues to fall in the Ukrainian market. Given this, manufacturers are going to lower prices last year's product.
Currently, Ukrainian producers ship carrots from the harvest of 2018 at prices of 10-15 UAH / kg ($ 0.37-0.56 / kg), which is 20% less than in the last days of the past week.
The low quality product is sold at prices from 6 UAH / kg ($ 0.22 / kg). Experts believe that the main reason for the fall in prices is the expected seasonal increase in the supply of early products with little demand in this segment.
According to leading market players, consumers often expressed dissatisfaction with the quality of carrots from last year's crop, which became significantly lower after long storage.
Wholesalers and retailers are ready to purchase only small batches of such goods, explaining their position with low customer demand. It is noteworthy that today last year's carrots in the country are sold at almost the same price as at the beginning of June 2018.
Farmers say that the price of the “old” carrots will fall further, due to an increase in the supply of the new crop product. Already now they are thinking about the need to reduce prices for this product.
