Production of berries such as cherries has declined significantly in Japan. We are talking about commercial production, the pace of which this season fell by six percent compared with the previous marketing period.
At the moment, the volume of release of cherries on the market is fifteen thousand two hundred tons.
Based on information shared by leading analysts from the United States Department of Agriculture, the decline in production of this berry is triggered by adverse weather conditions. In addition, the reduction in the total area under the cultivation of stone fruits (up to four thousand seven hundred hectares) also had its effect.Meanwhile, shipments of sweet cherries from the United States of America to the world market are actively growing. At the moment, the growth rate is equal to thirty-one percent and reaches four thousand three hundred tons of berries.
It will not be superfluous to note that adverse weather conditions also significantly affected the yield of Japanese peach. The forecasts for the final crop fell by twelve percent and amount to one hundred thousand tons.
It is noteworthy that imported peaches are not yet available to Japanese consumers. According to experts from the local Ministry of Agriculture, the suspension of external supplies of this fruit is associated with “certain phytosanitary problems”.
