A further increase in the cost of apples on Ukrainian markets will be constrained by product deliveries from Poland, where these fruits cost half as much, said Oleg Pendzin, executive director of the Ukrainian Discussion Club.
Today, apples cost half as much in Warsaw wholesale markets as in Ukraine. This price ratio is a favorable background for large imports. According to the economist, Ukraine may not expect a serious increase in apple prices, as all this will be blocked by imports from neighboring Poland.
According to Oleg Pendzin, a similar situation is observed in the vegetable market of Ukraine. This spring vegetables have risen in price several times, especially with regard to the “borsch set”.
As the expert predicts, prices for these products have already stopped rising, and in June they should completely stop their upward movement. In April of this year, vegetables in Ukrainian markets showed a price increase of 12%.
The highest rate of price growth was observed for white cabbage, which became 44% more expensive. Specialized experts explain the current situation with extremely high prices for cabbage and onions, failing to harvest these vegetables in 2018.
A modest harvest of onions and cabbage was harvested not only in Ukraine, but also in European countries.
