At the end of 2018, US exports of oranges and tangerines decreased by 14% in commodity terms and by 2% in monetary terms.
The US Department of Agriculture noted that South Korea was the main overseas buyer of American oranges and tangerines last year. The decline in exports to Korea amounted to 11% in commodity terms, and 29% in monetary terms.
Last year, South Korea purchased 131,500 metric tons of American citrus fruits for a total of $ 202 million, accounting for a quarter of the total US export volume of oranges and tangerines and a third of the cash volume.
For other countries, the export picture of American oranges and tangerines is as follows:
Canada: $ 156 million worth of citrus fruits purchased, 1% increase in purchases;
Japan: procured for $ 87.4 million; procurement level unchanged;
Hong Kong: procured at 82.7 million dollars, growth in procurement by 11%;
China: procured at $ 51.9 million, a 7% increase in procurement;
Australia: procured at $ 17.9 million; reduced purchases by 28%;
Mexico: Purchased at $ 13.9 million, an increase in purchases of 33%.
