Lviv businessmen Yuri Polyakov and Irina Mironova founded the project “Lviv Trophy”. They grow earthworms on their vermiferm, which produce valuable organic fertilizers.
Organic fertilizers and raw materials from which they can be made are in great demand among agricultural producers.
Organic fertilizers can be obtained from a variety of organics. This includes animal and poultry waste, food waste, as well as agricultural residues. Fertilizer production for the agricultural sector is a great idea, which Lviv farmers decided to implement.
The length of the moves of earthworms, dug underground, can reach 2 m. But some types of worms deepen into the soil by 8 m.
On their unusual farm, Irina and Yuri raise worms that process organics into nutritious humus. At first, entrepreneurs considered the content of worms a hobby, but later realized that it could be profitable. At first, they spent only 1 hour on pet care and about $ 50 per month.
Soon, the case was put on a commercial basis. Greenhouse enterprises have expressed a desire to purchase humus. And worms were often bought by fishermen through special shops.
To date, more than 60 worm families live on the farm. Farmers' immediate plans include the integration of an organic processing enterprise into the city’s infrastructure. It will save the city from food waste and turn it into a valuable environmentally friendly fertilizer.
