Whereas in the northern regions of Ukraine it was possible to see isolated cases of fusarium, in the central regions this problem became widespread. This was announced by Oksana Sobchenko, manager of Ocean Invest LLC in the Cherkasy and Kirovograd regions during the AgroExpedition Wheat 2019.
According to the expert, this situation became possible due to the weather conditions of this winter. The dense snow cover did not leave the earth for four months. The soil did not freeze under the snow. Some fields were affected by Fusarium in 70% of the area. Heavy rains that took place in April only complicated the situation.
To save the culture, Ukrainian farmers refused to reseed and began to introduce fungicides, as well as double harrowing. Thus, the disease of cereals was defeated, but managed to affect their productivity.
“So, the yield indicator in the Center of the country amounted to 5 t / ha. Last year, winter grains in the territory of Cherkasy region showed a yield level of around 5.6 t / ha, Kropyvnytskyi region - 3.37 t / ha, ”the report said.
Earlier it was reported that scientists from the National University of Bioresources and Nature Management of Ukraine predicted a massive defeat of wheat by Fusarium in 2019.
Scientists expected the largest-scale defeat of winter wheat crops in Polesie and in the Forest-Steppe, provided that there would be warm and humid weather with frequent precipitation in the form of rain and heavy dew. In some areas of the Steppe zone of Ukraine, scientists predicted a slight infection with winter wheat fusarium.
