Leading specialists in the agricultural sector of the Crimean Peninsula, with the support of experts from the Russian Academy of Sciences, are actively working on creating unique varieties of grain plants.
The main goal pursued by the developers is to develop such crops that can grow quietly and develop smoothly even in an arid climate.
The lack of moisture for irrigation of agricultural land today is quite acute in the Crimean open spaces. In this regard, the cultures characteristic of the Crimea will be adapted and improved for growth in conditions of minimal watering with the preservation and improvement of crop yields.
Such information was shared by Sergei Aksyonov, who heads the republican administration, as part of a meeting with Russian government leader Dmitry Medvedev.
It is not superfluous to note that the scorching sun, high air temperature and moisture deficit led in 2018 to the fact that significant losses of the grain crop were recorded on the peninsula. The damage amounted to more than five hundred thousand tons of grain, which led to a meager crop volume - only one million tons.
It is known that last year, not only summer but also spring was arid on the peninsula, which led to enormous agricultural losses - a yield of twenty-three and a half thousand hectares was lost.
