The purpose of the competition is to demonstrate the exceptional quality of British wool, the organizer of the competition is British Wool - British Council for Marketing of Wool.
Farmers registered in the organization can participate in the competition through a network of 11 sorting warehouses. Fleece qualifiers will also be held at 18 agricultural exhibitions across the UK during 2019.
The competition “Golden Fleece” in 2019 will be held in two stages. Eight finalists will be invited to a presentation at Bradford in December. National Champion of the Golden Fleece 2019 will receive the Silver Tray of the Competition and a prize of £ 1,000. Reserve Champion will receive a prize of £ 500.Trevor Richards, chairman of British Wool, said the competition is designed to demonstrate the "exceptional quality" of British wool.
“Being selected as one of the best wool show countries in the country is something to be proud of, but getting the title of National Champion in the Golden Fleece is indeed an award of British wool of excellent quality,” he said.The British Wool is located in Bradford, West Yorkshire, and there are about 40,000 British sheep farmers in its ranks.
