In Ukraine, African swine fever has been progressing for several years, and hundreds of farms have been affected by the virus.
The state compensates losses from ASF only to private farms, industrial producers must independently solve this problem.
However, the situation may change, since this week a meeting of representatives of the Association “Pig Breeders of Ukraine” and the Ministry of Agrarian Policy took place.
During the meeting, a discussion began on several issues that could affect the sustainability and competitiveness of Ukrainian manufacturers.
In particular, it was about the following:
- “Compensation for the loss of pig stock in industrial enterprises in the case of ASF. In particular, they discussed the option of reimbursing 50% of the market value of animals lost due to ASF and compensating for part of such losses depending on the biosecurity level of the “affected” enterprise.
- Compensation of expenses of industrial pig farms for measures to increase biosafety. So, pig farmers drew attention to the fact that obtaining state support under the existing program for partial reimbursement of the cost of construction and reconstruction of livestock complexes now has a complicated procedure for obtaining the necessary project documentation.
In response to this, representatives of the Ministry noted that the procedure can and should be simplified. The State Food and Beverage Service, which will draw up a list of typical work to improve security, took the initiative to help solve this issue. This will allow enterprises to receive reimbursement of expenses for confirmation of the implementation of specific biosafety measures.
- Support for insurance programs, ”the ACS said.
At the meeting, it was agreed that state support should, first of all, be provided to enterprises that increase the level of biosecurity.
