In 2017, 103 people fell ill with botulism in Ukraine. Of these, 8 cases were fatal. In 2018, 92 victims of botulism were registered. Of these, 7 patients died.
The fact that botulism can get sick after consuming canned goods from the supermarket, Nelya Polyukhovich considers unscrupulous manufacturers. If such a case is identified, a fine of 40 thousand UAH for legal entities and 30 thousand UAH for individuals is imposed on the manufacturer. The police open a criminal case, the activities of the enterprise are suspended.
The first signs of botulism: darkening in the eyes, dry mouth, shortness of breath. If they are present after eating smoked meats, mushrooms, canned food, you should immediately consult a doctor. The disease can be fatal!
In Ukraine, serum from botulism is not produced. It is delivered through humanitarian channels and not all medical institutions of the country have been provided with it, summed up Nelya Polyukhovich.
